About Faunula

I’m Anastasia Marchenko. I design crocheted animals and write the patterns for them, and Faunula is where they live.

A small fauna

Faunula is Latin for a little fauna, the animals of one small place. Mine come in collections: the animals in a collection share one idea, one palette and one scale, so they belong together on a shelf.

I design bags and clothes too, but Faunula begins with amigurumi. The first animals are small enough to sit in a palm. Not every collection will be.

A box of first tries

I keep a box of animals that did not make it: a mouse whose ears came out too big, a bear who somehow looked worried, a frog whose first pair of legs made him look ready to run a marathon. They are not failures to me. Each one shows how few stitches it takes to change a whole character, and deciding on a pair of ears for far too long is the part I enjoy most.

The pattern I would want to use

I made this site the way I would want to use a pattern myself. A free pattern is here on its page in full, with no ads to scroll past while you look for your place in round 12. If you would rather have it on paper beside your yarn, leave your email and I will send you the PDF. What every pattern goes through before it is published is on how patterns are made.
